  • after a little more advice or oppinions

    Greetings one and all.
I have been doing a full rebuild of a Marlin Roadster, the rubbers surrounding the side lights on the fromt wings have perrished quite bad however I have found a company who do a very nice little front side light that is intended for a Vellocet and they will look ok with the chrome bezzel.
However at the rear there is the brake light clusters with 2 reversing light fittings and what I am assuming to be 2 fog lights, all look quite rotten and need new units.
does anyone know if the light fittings are available or offer an alternative for the lights, I am tempted to cut out the light pods make some new and fit up graded LED lights.
    oppinions welcome.

Some members have replaced the front sidelights with Range Rover side indicator repeaters. The ones in this link are not original smoked ones but aftermarket clear ones. They come with orange bulbs but no holders so you would have to discard the bulb and source holders, which is simple on ebay.
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171743944082
There is a thread on this forum about these but I couldn't find it just now.

The range rover lights work really well

As for the rubbolite rear ones it is sometimes possible to get them in good second hand condition but they command a ridiculous price for what they are maybe try some round BLMC style?

Picked up a new old stock pair for £20 at the 1000 engines rally.
Thought they were the right price, confirmed by the price in the link.

The holy grail of rear lights are Volvo P1800, extremely rare, alternatively you can make Rubbolites look excellent with a stainless or chrome surround.

                  Volvo P1800 lights

This was a lot of work, and a lot more expense!
Rubbolites with the Marlin stainless escutcheon over the top is very nearly as good, and a whole lot cheaper and easier!

I am delighted with my P1800 lights, but I would not do it again!

If you go this way you need to think about reflectors.
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

Yep, i finished up sticking reflectors onto the reversing & fog light hsgs.(when I changed to the lighting to LED on FMB) So that they would conform to the rules on vertical reflectors. Which state that you should have 2 reflectors that can be seen reflecting light from the rear of any vehicle
( I remember taking my 2A LR for its MOT to be asked where the reflectors were! If it was ever fitted with them they were part of the rear lights. I guess someone had replaced them with different lights that didn't have reflectors)
I wonder how many Marlins I have seen that don't have vertical reflectors or should I say Kit cars in general.
