  • Help with BMW electronics

    Hi Guys
I have just acquired a Marlin Roadster Mk2 - the Marina one
That had been started in 1995 - and stopped soon afterwards

I have managed to squeeze a 1992 BMW 318i engine and auto gearbox into the space

BUT - last time I did this sort of thing was in the days of carburettors - this unit has electronic injection and far too many wires going into the gearbox
Is there anybody on the forum who can help me with identifying which wires and things I NEED and which I can throw away?

Incidentally I'm in New Zealand - when I get this on the road I believe it will be the second Marlin here

Welcome Duncan. I cannot help you with BMW info but as archivist I would like to know the chassis/kit number of
your car and I'm sure the guys on here would love to see some pics of your shoehorn job

Email me direct if you wish, my details are in Pitstop

    Best Wishes Dave Cunnington

Is the number on the Chassis somewhere?

I haven't seen it yet - I will have a look in the paperwork that accompanied it and see what is there

Should be on plate located on left hand front chassis leg forward of suspension lower arm.

Presume you are using engine wiring loom /ecu etc from the BMW ?

              Yes
I have everything from the donor car - had to cut the loom in a couple of places (well I thought that I had to) - unfortunately there are lots of wires the same colour! so simply repairing the cuts is not as easy as I expected

                Re: Help with BMW electronics

Found the plate - painted over with a good thick layer

I assume the numbers are stamped into the metal - I'll get some solvent/thinners and see if I can make them out

Duncan, just a thought but looking at your bonnet height tube, it may be a little high at screen level.

Here's a pic showing that the bonnet will be a bit lower, perhaps you would like to try
putting the front part of the screen holder in place to give you a truer dimension ?

No offence meant , but better to check now before you have the engine mounted !

If you have a one piece bonnet top, a bulge could always be manufactured anyway

He aynt got the front piece see his wanted post

                          "Hi
I have just acquired an old never completed Roadster - Mk2 - Marina version
I have the fiberglass "scuttle" that is behind the windscreen - the dash goes into this

But I don't have the fiberglass part that is in front of the screen
I will probably have to make one - I'm in New Zealand

But some nice pictures showing what it's meant to look like would help

                          Thanks
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

Here are some pics to help
If you like to email me personally I will send high res copies and also look for more

Someone somewhere in UK must have one - can anyone remember contacts for Rob who was selling parts a month or two back

I have a spare one. Dread to think how much it would cost to send to New Zealand though.
I will take some pics as well later.
