  • My Old Car

Would have been good if I had put the ebay number down, Hey Ho.

    See Ebay Item 271421009978

Listing has ended now but wanted £5500 for it.

    A bit steep but hey.

    Re: My Old Car

I've been a bit frustrated trying to get back into Marlin ownership with so many cars going abroad and these dealers paying the asking price and then inflating the price still more. Can't be good for us if it continues to pouch prices up. Unless of course you are selling

Anyway, that's what happens when we live in a fee market so I'll just have to try and save faster than the prices are rising!

Probably paying for the superb pictures, although I don't think I would stand under that bit of 3x2 timber supporting it on the car lift to take the pictures, you can see its bending and is loaded the wrong way.
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

Euro rate is very good at the moment, it makes things priced in GBP quite attractive.

I was confused by the bit of wood. Normally those lifts will reach the chassis. ...

              ????

nope....vice versa...the pound, compared to 2 -3 years is rather strong at the moment, making UK Items rather un-attractive for foregin (EU)-buyers as long as the price is not really cheap-cheap. anyway...duot to the reg date (1993) the car is not re-registratebale in most EU countries outside UK.

interesting that the brake, clutch and throttle pedal show some read overspray.

engine: the head, incl. all ancilleries, nuts, bolts etc. have been "professionally" painted in wheel silver spray.

differnet tyres, front driver side is differnt than the rest. anyway all tyres look like they are veeeery old.

and the seller is talking bout a "pinto twincam engine" and "built on a marlin spaceframe"

??? what weed does this guy smoke?

I was thinking more long term. The trend for Marlins and other specialist cars migrating abroad seems to have occurred over the past five or six years, post 2008 crash. Prior to 2008 the exchange rate was peaking around 1.5 now it is around 1.25.
Simplistically speaking, in the Euro zone, UK imported cars have been 20% cheaper since 2008.
During the past year when the pound-euro rate has struggled from a low of around 1.14 upwards to 1.27 it has indeed made them a less attractive purchase.
All of this is tempered by the availability of cash, but don't believe all the Euro hype posted by the UK government. Spain seems to be in recovery mode, official unemployment is still high, but the economy seems to be bouncing back with shopping centres expanding without the multiple charity shops filling vacant premises that seem to dominate the UK high streets.
