Re: Marina Roadster 1.8TC Q67 GJA

    Hi DC

I see from your picture in post #54 that you are using auxiliary dials from a MK2 Cortina GT. I have these in my Roadster and they work great. I used the temp sender from the original application to make sure the gauge and sender matched up. I see you also have the speedo and rev counter from the spitfire (or other Triumph source). On the back of the speedo there should be a voltage regulator. Make sure you run the aux gauges from this as they are intended for 10 volt supply. If not then they will read totally incorrectly. Not sure if you have taken the fuel gauge apart but if you do you will see there is provision, via little levers, to "fine tune" the needle sweep. I found that this was sufficient to match the gauge to the escort fuel tank sender. With them both being FORD, I had hoped they would be perfect but found there to be a need to adjust.

A bit of a milestone today, at last I've attached the rear tub - but still a long way to go

It's taken absolute ages to redo the paintwork, looks fine in the pics but it's no way up to professional standards

Many thanks DS, you're too kind. It's good that the weather is warmer, just helps a bit with the motivation

David Spolton came over to help with checking and bleeding the hydraulics but the brake master cylinder one pumped a few times then stopped.
Looks like the "C" washer has flattened and when recurved it flattened again, and it was a bit worn in the bore anyway.
I could not see exactly which one it was so could not order a repair kit - now awaiting a replacement via ebay - wonder how the clutch one will be ?

            Meantime been doing other bits.

The doors still seem to fit, just need to prepare/repaint them, and thanks to Ben's PM comment, you can see I have turned the spare wheel carrier bolts around.
What a good idea, it will save hand damages when accessing stuff in the boot

Hi DC did you use paint stripper on the doors? If so what breed? I have gone through a gallon of industrial strength stuff (bought from fleabay) and it isnt touching the 2k paint - it just goes through the lacquer then I have to start again, then again and again. Am thinking of media blasting the metal parts as its taking so long.

Not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs, but, did you try covering the stripper with cling film to stop it drying out?

Nitromors works for me every time - though it's very old paint, and I like H D's idea of clingfilm

Dave, the paintwork looks great and for what its worth I think a paint job done by an enthusiast is far better than a "professional job" costing thousands, you will always be able to say you did it all yourself.

Thank you Michael, that's my feeling too. I always reuse what I can as well, rather than throwing ££s at it - but sometimes (master cylinder!) you have to replace

Ref spraying, the body tub is too large really when using ordinary spray cans, they don't throw much volume and it's almost impossible to maintain a good wet edge so there
are a few "blow over" areas which hopefully will cut/polish out - but polishings a future problem anyway

                        I did!

DC - dont tell me that's an aerosol paint job? If so well done!

If ,as you did, get a good finish with rattle cans. Get a spray gun and compressor and with a little practise you will be professional. And whole lot cheaper. Just avoid Cyano paint.

Mine is just the 1275, wish I had the 1.8TC though.

Re: Marina Roadster 1.8TC Q67 GJA

"Honey I shrunk the car " It's back on it's wheels - after nearly two years up on the build stands I'd forgotten how small the Roadster is.

Brakes now sorted. The new master cylinder had the same apparent problem as the old one, more investigation showed that in fact
a rubber hose was blocked solid, now replaced and all is OK. I hadn't realised this could happen, maybe good thing for others to note !
                                I now have in stock a spare m/cylinder !

A while back I had an ignition melt down which required wires to be replaced, but the hot wires went through the plastic capillary to
the oil pressure ......does anyone have a spare ? Oil pressure was OK on restarting, so meantime the car just has a warning light

Waiting for a new clutch pipe from ebay, I hadn't noticed that the same incident as above had also wrecked this plastic pipe.

The doors are now painted and hardening off before re-fitment.

The floors, seat belts and transmission tunnel are now back in and some carpet and the gear lever rubber refitted

Sunday afternoon, must be time for a snooze
