  • Bonnet piano hinge

    Hi all

I am in the throws of fitting the bonnet on my roadster.

I have the piano hinge supplied and when I offer it up with the two half's the hinge part appears to be to wide.

    It measures 9.5mm thick.

Is this right, has anyone else fitted theirs and if so what is the thickness of their hinge?

Did anyone buy a slimmer hinge etc.

    Hi Adrian

What sort of an edge do you have on the bonnet panels along the hinge?

On my Cabrio it was just a straight cut edge: I had to trim mine to make the panels fit nicely.
You have to be very brave, and remove less than you think is necessary and then repeat several times as you get closer and closer to a snug fit.
Remember to allow for any rubber linings you intend to fit opn the copwl and bulk head, and make sure you set the gap you want between side panels and bonnet - using a hard spacer to hold this gap constant is useful.

YIf you have a straigh edge you need to allow a 2mm gap between the edge and the hinge to avoid it fouling as you open the bonnet.

If you have a folded edge along the edge of the bonnet, I have no idea how you are expected to make it fit!!!

    Regards

    Mike

Maybe I need to look at someone else,s to get an idea.

It's not folded so can be trimmed but I had some notion that, like the side panels, they were pre-fitted at the factory.

Obviously you need to do the cut away for the windscreen wipers.

      Thanks for the info.

Like Mike says, I seem to remember lots of trimming until it sat OK

Ok, Keith has just popped round and its exactly the same size.

But now he has me thinking, do I go for a Stainless Steel one.

                More money, oh well.
