  • Car transporter trailer

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can hire / borrow a trailer to move my Roadster in Glasgow area. I have used Indespension before but I am looking for other options.

Most people will read that as cheaper

It does not answer your question, but I found this airbaggedtrailers a useful design for very low cars.

        Hi Derek
An option maybe to buy an A Frame from Ebay then resell it when finished or keep it for further use.

If you just want to move your car from A - B you would be cheaper hunting round for a transporter, for one off fill in jobs you can sometimes get bargains.

I sent mine from West Lothian to Paisley for 60 quid, could hire a trailer for that. I used www.anyvan.com

Look on Gumtree also, guy has an add on there now "Call or Text Phil on 07866000023"

I got mine from Devon to Kent by asking the local haulage company to let me know when they had an empty return load, dirt cheap. Mind you that was mid '80's probably with all this computerised loading now they don't have many empty trucks.

Also, there is a web site out there that haulers use to pair up with people looking for transport, don't recall the name but Google will help.

With the Roadster tube bumpers clamps are easy to make using U bolts and an A frame is very easy to weld up using scaffold poles and a trailer hitch. A nice one can be made from a caravan draw bar.

I thought that A frames were illegal if the total towed weight was greater than 750g, in which case it needs an inertia braking system.
Certainly in Spain that is subject to EU law, all camper vans towing a small car like a Smart can only do so if the Smart car is on a separate two axle trailer. I expect that the UK law is remarkably similar.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have emailed Phil from Gumtree. I await a reply.

I love the air bag idea, I'm now wondering if it could work on a diy car ramp. That would save me shed loads of time to get my berli up to a workable height to play with.

Indeed! However, if you google 'air jacks' you will find that you need shed loads of money!
