  • Removing an Escort tank from a MK2 Roadster

I have searched the forums, lots about tanks but can anyone tell me if it's possible to remove my tank without taking the rear body shell off?

I'm sort of hoping I can do it from underneath when the axle is being removed and fixed. I realise it sits on rails welded to the rear chassis but is there wiggle room to lift the front of the tank and tilt it out?

    thanks,

The problem will be undoing the nuts at the rear. Because the body of the tank is proud of the flang that goes round the tank I think you would be lucky to get a spanner, let alone a socket, on the top of the nut from the boot. You may be lucky and the previous builder would have put the tank in from the bottom.

Sorry but I think it's rear clam shell off.

Let me know if you need a hand.

I was one of the lucky ones, the tank was placed from underneath using captive nuts and stainless bolts. So much easier to remove.

Mine was put in from underneath but I still had to remove the clamshell because it covered the bolts. I didn't think of putting it in from the top... it may have been easier!
