As I wasn't able to maintain my Marlin myself and most of my driving was going to and from the garage for the next repair to be done, that's exactly what I did! I've now got myself a 1989 Eunos Roadster and so far at least, I couldn't be happier with my decision. It drives so much better than the Roadster, is more comfortable and even has a heater! I'd be the first to admit though that it doesn't turn anywhere near as many heads as the Marlin used to.

I have had both a mark one and a two they do drive well, but they rust well which is a shame as it spoils what is a very good car.
I wouldnt say it handles better than my Hunter though and it nowhere near as quick

Hmmm, a bit of a Marmite design that one. Says something abouty its size too when compared to an original.

Rust is a result of poor initial preparation and a lack regular maintenance and not because it’s a Roadster and as for speed that depends on what engine you put in!

There's mk1&2 mx5s suffer from rust. Apparently the front chasis legs rot from the inside so hey need to be checked with a borescope.

Sorry Andy, as the topic was about Marlin Roasters I assumed that "Peterboats" comments about rust referred to Mk1 & Mk2 Marlin Roadsters and not MX5s hence my comment about initial preparation, maintenance and engine.
PS. speaking of borescopes, I got one for Christmas fantastic tool.

As an ex 3000BN7 owner, not Marmite. I like Marmite. IMHO It is lovely clean lines spoiled, but that's just my opinion.

I think MX5s have built in rust to be honest its always the same places rear arches, cills in front of the rear arches, all the inner cills at the rear and front wings by the front of the wheel arch.
Thats without looking much further, over the years I have welded up a fair few of these cars at the garage made a good living from it, whilst we specialised in Jags, customers wives seemed to like these little roadsters and no reason why they shouldnt.
