  • Cabrio Coilover Data

I have started this new post with a sketch and details that I have gleaned so far.

It seems that the shorter (stiffer) springs have been used on my Hunter, maybe due to the weight of the V8 engine?

Please send me a PM with any info that you have about your own cars and I will add it to the spreadsheet. Peter.

      Re: Cabrio Coilover Data

If anyone can have a look under their Cabrio / Hunter with a tape measure over this weekend and let me have their info I would appreciate it. I want to phone GAZ with an order on Tuesday and any more data available will be really useful. Many thanks. Peter.

Note * 1 - /090 in part number is distance between body and metal top flange. The 1" bump rubber makes the actual fully closed dimensio 10" as shown.

Note ** 2 - Adjustment threads visible shown for reference only - Different makes and part numbers will not read across!

Note *** 3 - The new coilovers have the bottom of the body much closer to the lower bolt bush so differences will appear for some dimensions.

Note! - Old type Marlin (solid) wishbones need smooth tapering radius grinding to ensure body will not foul at extreme rebound! Later tubular type do not.

        ADJUSTING COILOVERS

A few notes about adjusting coilovers while still fitted to the car.

Before attempting to adjust the spring seats on coilovers that have been in service for some time be sure to note the following:

        • Wire brush all exposed threads on the body to remove any rust or corrosion.
        • Spray the threads with Plus Gas or penetration oil. Leave to stand overnight!
        • Oil the top C- shaped spring seat where it fits against the top flange of the piston rod.
        • Oil the threads above and below the adjuster ring
        • Loosen the locking grub screw in the edge of the adjuster ring.
        • Jack under the centre of the front cross member so both front wheels are off the ground.
        • Use the correct size C-spanner to rotate the bottom spring adjuster ring.
        • Don’t forget to tighten the locking grub screw after final adjustment.

        Hope all this helps.

        Peter.
