There are two different types of fitment for the HS4 the one with two holes would fit but not knowing the diameter of the connecting hole the air flow may be resticted.

Can I ask to what engine you are connecting this manifold to, 'A' or 'B' series?

If 'A' series then why not fit an Hif6 or 44 which is a superior carb and will give the 'A' series a little boost in the bhp stakes.

It also has other plus points in that the float bowl is below the carb and has a very good heat sync plate.

I have included a picture of mine so you can see the fitted version.

Your manifold has the 4 stud carb mounting and the hs4 carb has the 2 diagonal studs and 1.5” bore. If your manifold has the 1.75” bore you may run the risk of leaks and a lean fuel mixture, that is if the studs line up.

That's the 'A' Series, then I would go with the hif su carb around £70. Make sure you replace the needle with a bdl from Burlan around £12.

It will run fine and as I said will give you extra BHP for very little outlay.

Another option is to carefully cut away the inlet part of the combined manifold (or collector) just leaving the exhaust part intact. Then you can fit a water heated inlet manifold to take a bigger (e.g. 3/4") SU carb. This was a common modification done by old Mini owners and I'm sure the inlet manifold is probably still available. I did this mod to my 'A' series engine back in the early '90s and it worked a treat. It also enables you to fit a LCB (long centre branch) exhaust manifold if you wish although I never got round to that.

                      "take a bigger (e.g. 3/4") SU carb" ??

                      Did you mean a 1 &3/4" carb (1.75") as the other carbs are either 1 & 1/4" or 1 &1/2"?

Agreed , the 1 & 3/4" SU carb worked well on the A series

Yes, I meant a 1 & 3/4" (1.75") carb. Brain and finger not working well together! Using a single carb avoids the balancing issues with a twin carb set-up.
