  • Sportsters and SVA

The body is now on and SVA time is nearing for our Sportster - are there any common SVA issues that crop up on Sportster that we need to look out for?

    Thank you,

    Patrick

    Re: Sportsters and SVA

A few thoughts from speaking to owners at Stoneleigh this year:

Indicators at the front fail as they are too far away from the sides of the car so they need to go on brackets

Headlights fail for being too low - wind the suspension up to pass.

    Any more thoughts?

      Re: Sportsters and SVA

The axle design weights in my case were incorrect. Probably due to the underfloor exhaust with 4 heavy mufflers hanging under the back of the car.

      Marlin state:
      500 Axle 1
      550 Axle 2
      1050 Gross

The correct design weight based on the measurements at the test for my car were:
      500 axle 1
      563 or above axle 2
      1063 or above gross weight

The tester stated the form should have had the numbers above or higher for it to pass. It's not a big deal but does result in a fail and retest. What you need is a letter from Marlin stating that the higher design weights are correct and it will pass just fine. The SVA tester does need to see and original copy so you can just ask Marlin to email or FAX a copy.

I asked them to write a letter with these weights:

      500 1
      565 2
      1065 Gross

Seems like a nicer number than 63! I see no reason why you couldn't just put a higher number on the SVA1 form in the first place to avoid this issue.
