  • ABS sensors / Brake wear sensors

Having now stripped my donor (1996 318is, M44) I am refubing the brakes and hubs. In my ignorance during dismantling (and assuming I didn't need ABS for the Sportster) I forcibly removed [snapped] the plastic sensors which are in the rear of the hubs as they would not come out at all. Is this that serious or am I worrying over nothing? Does anyone know how to get the rest of the plastic out?

    Cheers

Re: ABS sensors / Brake wear sensors

    Hi Kieran,
this should be an interesting build as I have not seen an M44 based Sportster. Don't worry about the ABS sensors as you probably won't be fitting ABS to your Sportster.
You can see pictures of my build at:

and a much better organised site is Patrck's at:

    good luck,

    Peter

Re: ABS sensors / Brake wear sensors

Not sure better organised fits I need to add a second layer of categories as anyone new to the site must wonder what on earth is going on! It got a bit bigger than I had originally planned LOL

I wouldn't worry about the ABS you shouldn't need it. I removed all the sensors from my E30 based Sportster. I don't think the ABS worked in the donor car anyway!

Kieran, like your windscreen bird poo instructions

There's also Robins site to look at here: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/martinclan/

      And Jason's http://www.greatoldone.co.uk/Site/Introduction.html

There's more build sites and useful link on my site here: http://www.msportster.co.uk/links.asp

      Thanks, Patrick

Re: ABS sensors / Brake wear sensors

Thanks for the replies chaps. restoration is taking some time, and I haven't even started on the engine yet!
I have updated my images and changed the web link a bit: http://picasaweb.google.com/kierancharlesneale9

I think I have every Sportster site in my favorites now!

Looks like you are making very good progress. You'll need a new short propshaft but keep the old one as some builders have used the end UJ's. The finish on your gearbox looks great! Have you order your chassis yet?
I like the way you have to keep the gate shut to stop your donor getting away :-)
