  • Where can I get a reversing light switch?

Getting the car ready for the road and a blistering summer (I hope), but found that I have a worn reversing light switch in the gearbox (ITAL 1.7 ). I suspect that the switch is generic to most of the Ital/Marina range. Anyone know where I can obtain a seviceable item?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers Alan

May I add to the question - on a Marina where is the contact points on the gearbox? Is it just a simple case of plugging in some wires and the switch works?

    Cheers

I have always found EARLPARTS www.earlparts.co.uk or www.marina.spares.uk very good for any parts I have wanted.

        Hi Alan,
Just a thought, but as the gearbox is virtually the same as dolomite /spitfire1500 maybe one of Triuph specialists such as Rimmer Bros can help

Thanks for your thoughts guys but I think I might have sourced a switch from the most unlikely place; the Rover dealership in Barnstaple actually claims to have one in stock. I'm awaiting confirmation.

Stefan can you clarify your question? Are you asking where the reverse switch is on the gearbox and how does it conect into the electrical system.

Alan, I think you may be right and is a good backstop if the Rover part is not suitable.

          Cheers Alan

Alan, thats exactly what I'm after. From what I've read the switch is on the passenger side, towards the, but I have trouble getting my hand up there to have a feel about. Mines the 1.8TC gearbox mind.

My car doesn't have a reversing light attached - it's currently sitting on the shelf on "to do after I graduate" list.

Re: Where can I get a reversing light switch?

                Hi Alan

Thanks, that's all great info - I'm still waiting to see if Rover come through with the part.

                Stefan.

If the gearboxes are the same or similar then the switch is indeed on the Pax side of the gearbox on the side/rear of the gearbox extension. It is screwed in from the side of the extension just below the cup cap that holds the gear lever in place. The switch has a very coarse screw thread which tends to be a little tight when moved through the first couple of turns then slackens off to allow finger turning. The switch is approximately one and a half inches long. My old switch was just tierd because it would work if the actuator was depressed about 1/8th of an inch; it needs to work with just minimal contact - in my car at least. I can send you some pictures of my old switch if you would like to see the beast before you start on the job.

                All the best

                Alan

Alan, I've got one spare if you need it...it's sitting in a redundant gearbox at the moment. Let me know on jezcox<at>tesco.net.
