    Hi All,

As I`m sure is the case with most Berlinettas, the sump on my 1600 Pinto is very low to the ground.
Has anyone reduced the depth of theirs ie cut off the bottom, cut a section out and weld back together? Can this be done successfully? If so how much have you cut out and what have you done with the oil pickup pipe? Anything else I should know?
    Thanks,
    Richard

I beleive a capri sump is what you need, together with it's dipstick.Try e-bay or one of the ford clubs.

      Yup,

I fitted a Capri sump. The bottom of the sump is now no lower than the bottom of the chassis. You will need the correct dip stick as Alan says.

The original oil pick up works but there would be no harm in using the Capri one.

Whilst the sump is off why not fit a high capacity oil pump as I did!

      Good Luck

Does this mean if a whole Pinto from a Capri is fitted instead of one from a Cortina, there will be greater ground sump clearance?

Are the engine (and gearbox) mountings exactly the same?

Yes Richard if engine from a capri is fitted there will be greater ground clearance, but the best option is to fit a sump from a ford escort R.S.this is alloy and allows the starter motor to go on either side, and gives the most ground clearance. The only way to get more clearance is to have a sump custom built.

Hi Danny RE LOW SUMP PROBLEMS

Ihave the same low sump problem on my Sierra based YKC Roadster I have recently fitted a sump guard but obviously this reduces ground clearance even further I am interested in the Capri option. Do you know how much shallower the Capri sump is in comparison to the Sierra

I am sure you would gain approx 40mm.
