  • Flasher unit query

Can anyone answer this question? When I go for the MOT I must always remember to do the winkers first, then the hazard lights. If I do it the other way round, the flashers wont work for about a minute. Why so?

    Re: Flasher unit query

    This is only a theory!!

Some cars use the same flasher unit to feed the indicator switch and hazard switch. It is possible the flasher unit is getting too hot and then doesn't wan't to respond to the draw from only one side after feeding both sides.

The other possible is that the switch over contacts in the hazard switch struggle to reconnect to normal circuit after being on hazard.

This is only a theory "DISCUSS!!"
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

Thanks for those possible explanations Ben. The 2 functions are served by one unit as you suspect. The winkers always work after the "cool down" period so I'm not too bothered, just curious.
