Any ideas on a cheap heater box and matrix for a Roadster ?, I was looking a Mini unit but thought you chaps may have some more ideas.

I have just used heater box from a late mini, because of battery placement I have had to fit it above the passenger footwell. That meant blanking off one side of the heat outlets but it fits a treat and works tolerably well. The matrix looks fairly new and the whole lot cost ?30 from my local breakers.

It depends on what donor was used ie Triumph or Marina so it would help your case to say what car its for. On the Triumph based cars the Herald/Vitesse unit can be made to work very well.

I used a mini unit on a marina based roadster i previously owned, fitted[just] centrally above transmission tunnel, ideal in that it comes with demisters. If space is tight you could consider using a mini matrix in a case of your own design/dimensions and use computer cooling fans[very small and apparantly 12v] Stafford vehicle components do a couple of units but you may want to put it on your list to Santa!

I am going throught the same process; mini heater into a marina based car, heater will fit ok but where can you plumb in the water valve? The question is will a mini water valve fit ont a B series block?

A mini valve won't fit, but you can always fit an MGB item...also standard mini hoses are the wrong diameter for the B-block outlet pipe, so some cunning is called for. I fitted a mini heater from new and never regretted it. Also you can now get an uprated mini unit with a 2-speed fan from some of the Minor specialists although they're not cheap.

              Hi Jez and Don
See my reply at top of page regarding late mini heater. I used a valve from stafford vehicle components (01827 67714) it cost 27.50 inc ( very prompt) delivery and works a treat.

I don't know whether this answer is too late but I built a very efficient heater from scratch using the matrix from my donor Sierra. I put the plans on PitStop some years back but I can't remember which issue
