  • Fuel Tank

After I posted in my build diary that I had got a new fuel tank made, one or two members contacted me wanting more information. When I was looking for info about how to go about having a tank made, I found little published about it on this forum. So I thought that maybe the subject of fuel tanks should have a dedicated thread where members can post their thoughts and experiences when it comes to repairing or replacing a fuel tank. I will start with a re-hash of how I got my tank made and hopefully others will follow resulting in a pool of info on all things fuel tank related.

I used a company called obp motorsport http://www.obpltd.com/ . They are specialists in alloy fabrication and have a selection of ready made alloy tanks but will also make a tank to a drawing, which is what I did. They have help sheets on their website pointing out things to consider when you are designing your own tank.

This is the sketch that I sent to them.

They got in touch the next day with a price of £200 plus carriage plus VAT which came to £260. The tank arrived about a week after I paid for it.

There are two internal baffles which I actually forgot to specify so full marks to obp. I thought about having a mounting flange put on the tank by obp but I was not sure exactly what position to have the flange so I left it off. I have a local contact who can weld a piece of ally angle on, that combined with two cradle straps for extra safety is the plan.
