        Jon,
Are the Princess brake calipers a 4 pot design and are they directly interchangeable with the standard Marina calipers using standard discs?

          Re: Princess brake calipers

Thanks for your help Alan. I will call them tomorrow.
Yes Geoff they are a 4 pot design. They will fit the marina but be aware of some "issues". They are originally designed for twin circuit brakes so if you have single line you will need to use a cross over pipe. Some owners report that the bolts are "loose" fitting ie. the holes in the caliper are larger than the bolt shank. Some owners swap the caliper mounting brackets from left to right. This means the caliper is on the leading side of the upright which is not a problem. If you mount them as per marina then I believe you need to use the right hand one on the left and vice versa. You will need a .75" master cylinder as well as the 4 pot design creates a greater pedal movement. They are intended for larger discs so there is some pad overlap that you will need to keep an eye out for.
Rimmer bros have a vented disc conversion for the TR7 which will fit the marina if you turn the spacer to remove about 10mm as the TR7 disc is deeper than the marina. I intend to investigate this further so I will keep you posted.
If anyone has any other info regard upgrading of the brakes then please let me know.

            Hi Jon
I met a man the other day who tells me that his mate has a couple of sets of very good condition princess calipers and discs for sale but dont know a price yet will let you know if interested. I then bought a complete 1980 1.7 Marina off him which I have been using and am going to put in Pitstop as a complete car for sale for someone who needs it.

              Re: Princess brake calipers

The loose fitting is because all Marina brakes are Imperial sizings and the Princess/Ambassador callipers are Metric lugs, same for the brake pipes.

Yo can open out the mounting plates and retap the threads. If you buy Princess callipers always try to get the mounting bolts as well.

The alternative that will bolt straight on are the Rover SD1 twin pot callipers. There are option of single and dual brake lines and solid and vented discs.

I am currently exploring new aluminium callipers and vented discs in a kit from Rally Design. It should come out at about ?300 and bolt straight onto Marina uprights and brake fittings.

Chris, I am interested in this kit from rally design. What parts are being used? I spoke to Rimmer who seemed intersted at first then their prices went up and up and up. Keep us posted on developments.
Hi-spec can provide a kit to fit the marina but not at the low price you suggest.

Chris if using the SD1 calipers do I need to change the discs as well?

                    Resurrecting this old thread.
Princess calipers are now readily available, but is there further information about fitting them?

So they are... interesting. I used them on my Talbot Sunbeam and they were excellent. In that case I used 2.8i Capri Disks, does anyone know of a vented disk that will fit the front of the Marina? I'm off the fast marina to see if I can find out more...

Ok so this is the best thread I've found so far...

Looks like the spaced princess caliper with MX5 Mk 1 or 2 vented disks will work

                        Some quotes from the thread

I have Princess 4 pots on mine. I used the Escort external caliper pipework to convert the two port to a single port. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mk2-Escort-P ... 4201787718

I found that Mazda MX5 (late Mk1/Mk2) 255mm diameter vented disks are a good fit.

I had the centre of the MX5 disk rotor drilled and tapped to match the standard Marina hub. The disk centre is made of thinner steel than the Marina, so I bolted through the disk with longer bolts and added some K nuts for belt and braces. It’s all detailed in my car’s website http://www.marinacoupe.co.uk

I also found this in another thread that would fix the "sloppy" caliper mounting

I have finally sorted out how to fit 12mm mounted calipers to 7/16" Marina caliper mounts - Shoulder Bolts - buy some M12 x 1.25 bolts (must be 1.25 thread pitch), cut them to length and then run a 7/16th Die down them. The metric thread pitch is the same as the imperial one (sorry for the blurred picture - got in too close).

I think this will be my next winter project
