  • Do we have a chemist out there

Message originally posted by: Keith Howell
I have a Sierra based Roadster with the exhaust under the nearside running board. Over the years the exhaust has caused my rear nearside aluminium wheel to turn a slight bronze colour leaving things looking a bit odd. Are modern aluminium wheels anodised or lacquered or both. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what should I use to try and restore the wheel to match the others?

Hi Keith, My car has an old 6 and the same thing happens to my off side steel wheel. I thinks its just oil film as it comes off with a bit of Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner. If your wheels are silver they are normally powder coated and will come up like new with a bit of Wonder wheels(hydrochloric acid) try polishing the wheels with car polish as this seals the finish.I just repaint mine!
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!
