  • Timing the 1.7 O series Ital Engine

    Hi everyone

I've just re-sealed the cam cover on my 1.7 O series engine - won't do that again in a hurry! To do the job you have to remove the distributor so now, having got it all back together and the dwell angle set I need to dynamically set the timing. The Haynes manual states the timing should be set for 14 degrees BTDC but doesn't mention if this is good for an unleaded engine. Can anyone advise?

    Thanks

Just try it as it states in the manual, give it a run up the road, if it \"pinks\" under load, ie driving up hill in 3rd or 4th about 3000 rpm then retard it a few degrees and give it another go.

Thanks for the advice Jim. I've actally done just about as you said an it's running fine. I'm happy.

      Cheers
