  • Front suspension trunnions - Marina

My Marina based roadster has has an MOT but the tester did say that the N/S thred where the trunnion screws into the vertical leg was showing signs of wear and may not pass next year. I have fitted new trunnions only 1,000 miles ago and keep them well greased. Does this mean I will have to fit a new suspension leg or can the thread be refurbished. Any ideas anyone?

    Hi Jonathan.
South Wales Propshaft list left and right hand repair trunnions which re-cut a thread onto the suspension leg.
I have not tried them myself but they sound ideal.

    Hope this helps.

Jonathan, If you get in touch with Walford Engineering of Wolverhampton on 01902 456064 they do a repair kit for the leg. Basically it is a bigger and better trunnion to replace the original ones, but, you fit a threaded sleeve over the old thread, locktite into position and screw on the new trunnion.
So far I have fitted my Marina and my Marlin with these kits and they really do the job, no new uprights are ever needed.

Jonathan, if you do decide to replace the upright, i have a new, old stock nearside upright that you could purchase. It's the bare leg without ball joint, steering arm or trunnion. Pete
