  • Engine numbers

Does anyone know if its possible to find out a car's original registration number from the engine number i.e. is it recorded somewhere which engine went into which car at the factory?

It was certainly recorded on the original registration doc, so I'd have thought 'yes'.

Does the DVLA have any facility for doing this?

      Re: Engine numbers

      Hi Leigh,
You could try the Heritage Motor Centre as they hold a vast amount of records from various manufacturers.
      www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk
There is a charge for their services.
The VIN No. and Engine No. as installed at the factory would have been recorded, but the registration number for the vehicle would have been allocated by the DVLA when the selling dealer first registered the car.
Since it is the VIN No. that identifies the vehicle (engine numbers can change)it may be quite difficult to trace the registration number from the engine number.
You could give motor heritage a try though, as they may know who the dealer was who first sold and registered the vehicle.
      Best of Luck Anyway

      Regards Austin
