    Hallo,
got a problem with the clutch slave cylinders not lasting more then 2.000 miles then leaks oil.
The engine type is a Morris 1300 -1971/1972 A engine.
The slave cyl on is 7/8" ( mm 22,2) bore and doesn't seem to me to be steady in the clutch cyl housing.
Any help find out and solve the problem?
Therefore where could I find clutch slave or slave cyl kit?
Please let my Roadster, the only one in Rome, to still climb up and down the seven hill
    Thanks for the hellppp!

    Re: slave cyl

The clutch cylinders are a loose fit and will move around when not under load.

The Marina Owners Club offer an exchange/reconditioning service for clutch slave cylinders advertised in their Owners club magazine.

Contact Chris(at)marinacoupe.co.uk for full details. I think he can also supply new stainless clutch push rods.

He is a Marlin Owners Club member and may read this post himself.

If you can not contact him by email, I have his phone number and will gladly pass it on if you publish your email address.

Could the problem be caused by too much travel in the master cylinder trying to push the slave out too far, and stressing the seals?

        Re: slave cyl

I experienced a similar problem some years ago after I rebuilt the slave cylinder. The kit I used came with a new piston with a ready fitted seal. I popped it in and all was well for a few months when I started to experience fluid loss. I rebuilt the master cylinder and then in desperation I replaced the slave cylinder. After fitting the new one and trying the car I turned my attention to the cylinder I had removed - when I removed the piston I found that the seal had been fitted on to the piston the wrong way round! (Remember the kit came with a new piston with the seal ready fitted!)

Don't forget you need the seperate the engine and gear box to remove the cylinder ( I managed by moving the gearbox back by a few inches but did not completly seperate them.

With some fiddling you can remove the operating rod and extract the piston leaving the cylider in situ!

                    Re: slave cyl

The clutch slave cylinder can be removed without splitting the engine and the gearbox. You need to push the clutch operation lever as far back as it will go, I made a tool to do this, as did Leyland.

In the pictures attached, the small turned button locates in the squarish hole in the bell chamber, and the end of the lever locates against the operating lever.

A hefty pull and the clutch lever moves out of the way. Slip the push rod out and the clutch cylinder can be wiggled out.

A rather crude but effective way is to use a ratchet strap to pull the clutch arm backwards.
Keep your fingers out of the way when you release it though.
