  • Info on prospective purchase

    ...so post number 2!
I wonder if you can help me

I am looking at a soft top berlinetta in green with a 2L pinto and cortina running gear, as a minimum it needs some work on the brakes and the wiring to the headlights, it will need some tidying up as well.

Mrs rog likes the car except for the interior, she would prefer a wooden dash with rolled soft edges rather than the perfunctory machine decorated aluminium panel that exists at the moment. How easy would it be to:-
    1. get the plans, (I have no worries about build a replacement from said plans)
    2. removing the existing dash to fit the new one

Depends on what you are going to pay for the car?. If it is the one on ebay then weigh up what all the ( tidying up) will cost. body, interior, dash wiring, etc etc. It could well work out that you may be able to buy a good condition Berly for less, and have a lot less grief in the long run. If you want to buy a rolling project and take the car apart. then work out what it will cost you and negotiate a realistic purchase price.
      Danny.

You are absolutely right Danny, that is more or less the conclusion I had come to. I think 2.5k is a bit high for a car with no MOT.... I only have my own experience and the word of the seller as to what needs doing....
I am looking for the ideal car, I hope I can find it soon.

          Rog

Do you have Danny's phone number? - he has a wealth of knowledge of cars for available in the club.
Like all things, time spent researching is never wasted.

Hi Mike, I have had a chat with Lee and sent a PM to Danny so I am already heading for the apex of the learning curve! I am now sure that I want a Berlinetta or a cabrio
I have to say that the people here are very friendly and helpful...just as forums should be but rarely are.

Funnily enough I mulled over this car but didnt even get to view it as I figured much the same As you say a car without an MOT is basically a rolling proposition only and you have to question why th evendor wouldnt want to get it to MOT standard if the owrk is only minor

I wonder if he let it go for the high bid second time around on ebay?
See my new thread for what happened next, I made the right decision I believe....

And now Danny has sorted me a little beaut of a Berli and we have my Roadster going to a UK buyer who has been "encouraged" to join the MOC!

If it is anything like the one Danny sorted for me you will be well pleased.... My land rover is now history but I still get smiles for miles when Mrs Rog lets me take "her car" out and I have the added bonus that I can use the motorway in the Marlin. I felt like a target if I took the old oil burner on fast roads
