  • A bit more head shaking.

    Evening all,
I was doing well yesterday, after a few hitches I got the engine and gearbox in place within an hour or so, but today has been a day of enbuggerment ! I started fitting new studs into the manifold to replace all the damaged studs only to find one hole had it's threads mostly stripped out, so sorting it out was a tad time consuming ( UNC on the MGB head but UNF on the Marina head ) Then I went to fit my propshaft ( I shortened it yesterday ) but found it will not match the MGB gearbox due to the flange PCD being different, so I'm back to start on that job. I then started to fit the manifold and carbs, here I was met with a multitude of little problems, I did not want to fit the old carbs as they need a good overhaul but I also discovered the spindles are badly worn, also the bushes are very worn, so this pair have been dumped in the "Pending box" ! I then fished out my next pair that came with the MG engine I bought and to be honest, the're not much better, I cannot fit them anyway as I would have to partly strip them to fit the carb to manifold UNF set screws from the original pair, I cannot use the 4 original studs as they were designed to take the thicker MGB heat sinks and the carbs would sit to high up, by about 1" ( Pushing them through the bonnet. I dumped the lot on my bench and walked off shaking my head, the day did get better though, I took my Border Terrier for a good walk. Once I got back I nipped into the garage again, masked up the Marlin wind screen and primed up the surround, then undercoated it, and that's it ! Has anyone got HS4 spindles or decent carbs to sell ??
