  • Marlin Factory Open Day

Marlin Sports Cars and Avatar are holding an Open day on Saturday Sept 5th from 10-4.30 with test drives, owners cars to look around and a myriad of different activities planned throughout the day, from - try your hand at clay Pidgeon shooting to remote control car racing, Top Gear style. There will be a silent auction, fun dog show, cake stall, bouncy castle, BBQ and much more. As well as the cars, a key focus of the day is remembering Marlin MD, Mark Matthews, who passed away in April 2014.

Funds raised during the day will go to AMMF, the only charity which supports those suffering from Cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancer, (as Mark did) along with the local Devon charity, Hospiscare, to say a big thank to them both for all their support then and now.

I have had confirmation that Paul Moorhouse will be attending. I know they are hoping for around 30 Marlin cars. Camping is okay if you let Terry know. There is a cup for the best Marlin etc etc So your support is needed to ensure a good turn out.

Judy & I will be there. I have sent an e-mail to Ernie Warrender, [former employee of Paul Moorhouse's back in the beginning] telling him about the day. David.

I was really hoping to attend this memorable day. Unfortunately a neighbour has decided to hold his wedding on this day and I am under a three line whip from SWMBO to attend. Considering I helped the guy restore his Sunbeam Alpine I should have been excused the nuptual occasion. The alpine? a 1964 example, rare, as it has a Borg Warner autobox. Sorry guys and gals I'll have to catch up at another time.

Subject: mark's day - Marlin Open Day

To my Marlin owners a reminder about Mark's Day
I am holding an Open day on Saturday 5th Sept from 11-4 (Marlin owners with Cars to arrive from 10am please) to celebrate the life and achievements of my much missed Mark. At the same time we are raising money for AMMF, the only charity which supports those suffering from the rare type of cancer Cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancer, (as Mark did) and the local Devon charity, Hosipcare, as I want to be able to thank them both for all their support as we would never have been able to cope as well without.
This is the first time the factory has been open to the public since moving to Trobridge, Nr Crediton Devon over seven years ago. I am so hoping there will be lots of marlin owners here with their cars and of course I will have Marks last Sportster that he built here plus his EXi race car and the championship leading Avatar One race car.
A key focus of the day is remembering Mark, who passed away in April 2014. Mark always felt it wouldn’t get him and with true grit and determination he managed to survive for eighteen months (despite being at stage four & given only just months when first diagnosed) which eventually lead to him leaving behind the wonderful ‘Avatar One’ racing car, Marks legacy.
I'm also creating, with help from our friends & family, a memorial area where you can bring something that reminds you of Mark. I am expecting all sorts to be brought along and left there including bits of engines, motor bikes or maybe just some weird and wonderful plants. Mark loved nature and often told me that he only found time to truly listen to the birds and smell the flowers when he got ill. I really hope this will be an area that people can come and sit in when they are visiting, which will make them feel closer to nature and Mark.
                Events on the day include:
Marlin Cars Judged Concourse (judges to be Paul Moorhouse and myself)
Andrei Burton trials bike display team will be here plus you can try your hand at Clay Pigeon Shooting & Archery - Remote control car Time Attack Challenge (Top Gear style) - Fete style games inc: bash the rat, balls in the bucket, darts, lucky box, bar skittles etc. there will be a BBQ, Hog Roast, Beer Tent, Tea, Coffee & Cake Stall plus live Music with famous local acts. Also a children's area with Disco bouncy castle, Army assault course, face painting, craft table, sand pit, footie games etc
and of course a Marlin rummage table :-)
I am also running an on-line charity auction with some fantastic and rare lots available such as tickets to sell out events like Goodwood Revival, much sort after F1 Silverstone tickets plus various other items of interest.
There are also many items donated by local businesses and Marlin suppliers.
Please take a look at www.avatarsportscars.co.uk/marksauction.
It's going to be an amazing fun day out for everyone and I really want as many people to come as possible. To help us with numbers I would really appreciate it if you
confirm your attendance via our facebook page
                www.facebook.com/events/1413499055639833/.
I am not planning on opening the doors again in this way so I really want as many people here as possible supporting these worthy causes and supporting myself and of course the Marlin name.
Thank you so much and any questions please email me [email protected] or call 01363 773772. If you can't make it and would like to still give something I have set up a giving page for Mark https://www.justgiving.com/terry-matthews2/
If you would like to stay on for the evening event please let me know and I will send you an invite. Its £5 a head for full evening of live music, entertainment and fireworks in mark memory (all donated) with food & beer tent. There is also camping but need to know in advance

Thank you all for posting and also for putting my last statement up as I suddenly realised I was not a member so couldn't post myself. I am pleased to say that I am now a member thank you ;-) This has been quite an emotional journey and I do so hope to see lots of Marlins in attendance to make us both proud...... I've asked mark to take care of the weather and its looking good.
                  Best wishes
                  Terry

A great day out at Marlin Factory to remember Mark. A good selection of Marlins, good weather, company, food, music etc. It was nice to chat to people not seen for several years and I hope a lot of money was raised. Judy & I were sorry to miss the evening do, but we have another engagement. Very well done Terry. David.
