    Re: Sprint / hill climb

Did the 'Run what you Brung' at Portreath some years back. My best 1/4 mile was 14.33 at just short of 99mph. Beat all the big v8s, only beaten by the bikes.
When you consider that the roadster above that speed is like flying a brick through the air I thought it was quite good.

        That sounds great
Are there any specific modifications you had to do to the cars, ie roll cage, fire extinguishers

The only thing they insisted on at Portreath was wearing a helmet, but that was back in 2006, so insurance etc. may have changed that.

That's pretty rapid, what engine do you have in the Roadster. I used to sprint an old Norton back in the 80s and my best was 13.20 at 101mph. Quite fancy having a go in my Roadster but its bog standard and would not do too well me thinks.

It's a 2l Fiat, much modded. Had it on the rolling road at Plymouth to set the carbs up not long after puting the engine in.

That would do it, very nice. It certainly has some go.

I'd love to run a quarter mile in mine to see what it would do

I have a standard MGBGT with twin HS4s and short stacks. The only go faster jobbie is a big bore exhaust that sounds throaty. I may go for a ported and sorted head. but, I think its all or nothing, i.e. lumpy cam, uprated clutch etc. I have had 94mph out of it but chickened out for any more. I do have an overdrive box so it will tootle all day at 70 mph. So its very reliable but would love to beef it up.

A friend and I hired a Hillman Avenger Tiger for the day in 1972 and did a sprint at Duxford. The foolishness of youth!
