One question though, I have also purchased a new(ish) set of HIF 44 carbs to replace the old worn out HS4s; given that the choke size is the same and the jets are the same size can I just swap the needles over or is it more complicated than that.

Actually I know it's always more complicated than that, but can I get away with it?.

HS and HIF carbs use spring loaded needles so you can swap from carb to carb.

Hs 4's are 1 1/2 inch, HIF44 are 1 3/4 inch and as such use different size jets! Hs4's are .090 and HIF 44 use .100 so ignore previous reply as the needles will NOT be suitable.Is your engine an 1800? if so you might try the various MG sites as I beleive the 1 3/4 inch carbs were used on tuned MGB's so giving you aa starting point for the correct needles.

HIF 44 use both .09 (no groove on jet)and .10 (one groove on jet)However my ref books dont list any twin carb set up with HIF6 or HIF 44 below 2 litres. Try contacting Burlen Fuel Systems for advice Email: [email protected]
