    Re: The future's electric?...

I like the idea of the electric motor drive with a small engine to charge the batteries. The charging engine is contrived to run at maximum efficiency and the motor avoids the weight of the gearbox....
  2. Re: Ford Sierra Steering Column indicator cam

I recently had to take the steering column out of my Sierra based car. The “Cam - direction indicator turn – off” has a lug that locates it in a slot on the steering wheel.

    The lug can just be...

These companies can supply a range of different mirrors. Not necessarily the "original" type.

    Re: Marlin Roadster Registration Advice

I understand that the IVA test is similar to the SVA in that you most probable will not pass first time but you will receive a list of items to be re-tested. The examiners will have a great...

    Re: Marlin Roadster Registration Advice

I have a VIN from the DVLA for my Sportster. It’s a long way from having an IVA. I guess the reg number, issued after IVA, may be tied to the VIN but not the other way round. The IVA will check the...

    Re: Jrr 929 d

Surely some mistake; working on JRR 292D is life. Everything else is a distraction.

    Re: Project Binky

I felt this last one was rather stringing things out; a little too much detail on the brackets and a little too much funk on the washer bottle. I would love to see this project finished and another...

    30,000 quality miles

Today Millie clocked up her thirty thousandth mile. It has taken 14 fairly reliable years. I know it’s not a record but I guarantee every mile was a quality mile.

    Re: Cabrio rear bearing noise?

I have started a new thread on differential ratios. I thought it would be of general interest and easier to find in its own thread. See:...

    Differential sizing

I hope this might be useful to compare ratios. My car, Millie, is based on a 2litre Ford Sierra with a Pinto engine, type 9 gearbox and 3.62 differential. The engine has been replaced with a 2L...

    Re: Cabrio rear bearing noise?

Sierras have pretty robust diffs. I think you have been unlucky to have one fail. I would not choose based on potential wear. I have been told the 1:9 is best for a 2L Cabrio.

    Re: Complete Kit Car

I don’t know who owns the “madly modified roadster” but I too was fascinated by it. It would make a great article for Pitstop.

Re: Roadster Rebuild Diary from Cornwall

The box section may be there to strengthen the floor. The flat steel floor can act like the button on a jam jar lid giving the car an insubstantial feel as you step in. With my Cabrio raising the...

Re: Roadster Rebuild Diary from Cornwall

I agree the aerodynamics of the Marlin leave a lot to be desired. Quite few members add vents to the top of the bonnet to improve flow through the engine compartment. When on the motorway home from...

Re: Roadster Rebuild Diary from Cornwall

I’m not a big fan of two fans. The engine is designed to run at an optimum temperature. Most wear occurs during the warm up. In general use the forward movement of the car should be more than enough...

I agree, mounting on the engine side is better. In addition it gets fewer insects stuck to it and makes cleaning the rad easier.
