    Re: Cabrio rear bearing noise?

I have started a new thread on differential ratios. I thought it would be of general interest and easier to find in its own thread. See:...

    Differential sizing

I hope this might be useful to compare ratios. My car, Millie, is based on a 2litre Ford Sierra with a Pinto engine, type 9 gearbox and 3.62 differential. The engine has been replaced with a 2L...

    Re: Cabrio rear bearing noise?

Sierras have pretty robust diffs. I think you have been unlucky to have one fail. I would not choose based on potential wear. I have been told the 1:9 is best for a 2L Cabrio.

    Re: Proof of club membership

The club has negotiated a member’s discount with selected insurance companies. Some insurance companies request proof of membership at renewal time. Others take it on trust but members should...

    Re: Complete Kit Car

I don’t know who owns the “madly modified roadster” but I too was fascinated by it. It would make a great article for Pitstop.

Re: Roadster Rebuild Diary from Cornwall

The box section may be there to strengthen the floor. The flat steel floor can act like the button on a jam jar lid giving the car an insubstantial feel as you step in. With my Cabrio raising the...

Perhaps “mostly adequately ventilated” would have been more appropriate.

Re: Roadster Rebuild Diary from Cornwall

I agree the aerodynamics of the Marlin leave a lot to be desired. Quite few members add vents to the top of the bonnet to improve flow through the engine compartment. When on the motorway home from...

Re: Roadster Rebuild Diary from Cornwall

I’m not a big fan of two fans. The engine is designed to run at an optimum temperature. Most wear occurs during the warm up. In general use the forward movement of the car should be more than enough...
  11. Re: Raceline water rail, Zetec engine and overheating.

With the pinto and zetec thermostats mounted in the block circulation of the water will ensure that the thermostat is at a similar temperature to the engine. With a remote mounting the hot water...
  12. Re: Painting a cast iron exhaust manifold

Just to prove I wasn’t being flippant I got this from Wikipedia “As with other metals, like aluminium, a tightly adhering oxide coating, a passivation layer, protects the bulk iron from further...

Re: Roadster Rebuild Diary from Cornwall

I agree, mounting on the engine side is better. In addition it gets fewer insects stuck to it and makes cleaning the rad easier.

I and others have had some success with Aldi "Deco" metal care paint. But the supply is unreliable.

    Re: Coil overs

    Hi Nigel,
Good to see you, your car and van at Stoneleigh. The caravan looks even better close up and deserves a thread on its own. An article for Pitstop would also be very welcome.

In my experience the only coating that has any longevity on a cast iron manifold is rust.

    Re: Got puzzled

An LED is in actual fact a Light Emitting Diode so another diode will not help. I think a series resistor so the LED only lights at 12 V might do the trick. I doubt the fan will generate more than a...

    Re: Berlinetta build and restoration

I took a snapshot of my Cabrio’s recent test. Similar results to yours. I’m not exactly sure what the various numbers are. It gives two weights for each wheel and two overall weights. I assume the...

To finish off this tale; I have now fitted the modified un-bent ant-roll bar. Despite all my careful measurement the castor angle has come out at almost 7 degrees on both sides. I am very happy with...
  21. Re: Check you upper wishbone mount rods now and again, plus new bushes

I would council caution when fitting the more rigid bushes. Cabrio forum readers will be familiar with the problems caused by rigidity in a compression strut replacing a relatively soft rubber...

    Re: Millie antiroll bar

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it should also be remembered that the main reason for fitting the struts to Millie was because I had a bent estate car anti roll bar. I had no idea the ARB came in...
