    Re: Rear Axel ID

Presumably at this stage you don’t know which of the two sizes of oil seal you need and you have not got the paper gasket.
All the necessary replaceable parts usually came with a bearing kit.
  3. Re: LWB refurbishment - based on marina 1.7 O series

Taking the plugs out simply means that the position of the valves will not make the engine easier to turn and allow you po pour stuff down the bores.
You don’t say how long you left the pistons to...
  4. Re: LWB refurbishment - based on marina 1.7 O series

I am a great believer in PlusGas ever since using it during my engineering apprenticeship. It seems pretty rare these days except in industrial suppliers, but I think it’s available from Screwfix.

  5. Re: Which Honda Civic Radiator are People Using

Its more work than getting a standard Viva radiator modified with an extra core, because you don’t have to worry about pipe sizes etc.

    Re: Rear Axel ID

    Thanks.

There are subtle differences depending on the year of the donor car.
There is no external visual difference between the two, particularly seals, so you will have to take them apart.

Re: Smiths Fuel Gauge To Tank Sender

Most automotive gauges are sluggish deliberately, certainly those with bimetallic strips. They are damped and not intended to give an instantaneous measurement like an electricians

Re: Smiths Fuel Gauge To Tank Sender

The answer is yes, there are various solutions. Mine was to carry a gallon can of petrol onboard.

Various options exist but I am confused.
Most Roadsters were fitted with an Escort Van fuel tank,...

    Re: Marlins a la Frog!

seems to have failed at French matriculation. Brexit won’t help that, the best option for the owner would be to ship it back to the U.K., for about €500, re mot it and sell it on eBay or pistonheads.
  11. Re: Serial number position for gearbox and rear axle please

I get the impression, but stand to be corrected that phild is heading towards an IVA test.
It’s not the time to play silly games that could scupper his plans.
  12. Re: Serial number position for gearbox and rear axle please

OD was never a standard option on a Marina or Ital.
That would not preclude a reasonable mechanic from retro fitting a Triumph OD box after the first purchase but it will not be tagged with a serial...
  13. Re: Serial number position for gearbox and rear axle please

BL, or whoever, never serialised the gearboxes to my knowledge.
There are numerous iterations of the basic Triumph casing, not just in gear ratios, input shafts, reverse gear idlers, the list goes...

    Re: Steering Wheel Alignment

I get what you say, but the position of the rack in the chassis is dictated by its mounting clamps and saddles and the flanges on the rack itself. The position of the rack within the body of the car...

    Re: Steering Wheel Alignment

That’s pretty much my interpretation, it’s a rack assembly aid, not a rack installation guide. The latter is defined by its flanges not by a relatively tiny hole.

    Re: Steering Wheel Alignment

i fail to see how the rack can be centred when it’s position is dictated by the construction of the rack, and it’s flanges where the rack body is secured by its saddles. The position of the rack is...

    Re: Steering Wheel Alignment

I have to agree. Focusing on a hole that at best is intended for centring the rack during assembly, but quite possibly is only an oil fill hole, misses out on the significance of track rod end thread...

  20. Re: Differences between the B series engine used in the Marina and the MGB?

I think that the take home message should be that after the best part of 50 years and enthusiastic adaptation, it’s increasingly problematic to expect that any second or third user engines are still...
  21. Re: Differences between the B series engine used in the Marina and the MGB?

To add to the list there are a variety of cylinder heads that were fitted to an MGB, including changes on valve diameters.

the part that gets ignored the most is the UJ at the very end of the column meets the steering rack. Ignored and exposed to the elements. A few drops of penetrating oil will help, but don’t turn it...
