Not really familiar with the set up , but could what is called a 'noodle' on cycle braking set up be used. It basically a short length of tube that turns the cable through 90 degrees .
If I remember correctly , once you have removed the fibreglass cover as Chris has mentioned you should have access to the motor and the two squirrel cage fans which are housed in a plastic housing....
Stainless steel exhaust tubing capped on one end of each piece to close the tube , then bond over the ends of the existing chassis tube. Neatens the look.
In addition to my previous post when I extended the lower legs I incorporated two rose joints so that the boot rack could pivot out of the way for access to the spare wheel.
I had a boot rack on my Marina based Roadster but the lower two legs were fitted to the rear 'bumper/ chassis rail' by extending those two legs. Never had a problem carrying a reasonable sized case.
Got to be worth a decent sum just for the engine!
If yours is Ford based back end [Sierra diff ,driveshafts etc] I believe it is same.
