    Re: New Marlin owner

Good progress! I now use Rustoleum Combi Colour Satin Black. It smells and works like the hammerite used to before it went all “green” and it chips off. Make sure you use the combi colour version....

    Re: New Marlin owner

With the relentless increase in Ethanol in fuels, which burn hotter than non ethanol fuels, I would do the unleaded conversion now. It only involves having machining done to allow hardened seats to...

    Re: Handbrake cable question

Thanks Scott. All noted. Useful info. Will pursue freeing up the existing cable first, even if it means disconnecting the cable from the handbrake stirrup and pulling it back to add copious amounts...

    Re: New Marlin owner

The following link may help as it gives the engine code at which unleaded was factory fitted. Alas mine was too early, hence the rocky road of conversion! Peter.

    Re: New Marlin owner

The +20 and the +0.5mm on the top of the piston means 20 thou oversize. Make sure if you re-ring the pistons that you get rings of this size. I would anticipate that there will be slight corrosion at...

Cant help with your specific question but previous experience with my head gaskets may be of use. Some years ago now, when I overhauled the Pinto head on my 2.0GL Sierra I fitted an aftermarket...

    Re: New Marlin owner

Not sure which engine you have, possibly Pinto?

The technique I have used with success in the past is to take a couple of old kitchen knives, the ones that taper across their width, and gently tap...

    Re: Handbrake cable question

Oh eck! Thanks Chris. I was looking for a quick fix for mine as the offside cable is a bit tight in the conduit. That has been caused by the usual crumbly rubber concertina gaiter that has let water...

    Re: Ford Clutch Quadrant Options

The quadrant on my old 2.0L GL sierra was yellow. The clothes peg shaped spring can fail or the pawl can just get gummed up with old lube and carpet fibres etc, the latter giving intermittent...

    Handbrake cable question

There are details in the Cabrio build manual for shortening the hand brake cable for the drum brake set up. Presumably this was also for the earlier short wheel base version?

    The cable for my rear...

    Re: IVA Vin Number

That seems odd. The vin number on my Hunter is on the near side (next to the kerb) in the UK. My old Audi has the VIN number on the same kerb side visible through the windscreen. I wonder if the...

    Re: Sportster electronic ignition

Re the spitting back on acceleration I would try a richer accelerator pump jet. As the rest were on the weak side I would suspect this is too. Worth a try anyway and a quick cheap fix. Pete.

Re: Hunter for sale R87 GDV

Yep! I agree with Ben. I think the overdrive is a red herring.

BTW the O/D valve lever doesn't move very much normally. If disturbed / undone the lever needs resetting. IIRC by using a dowel...

    Re: pinto heater

Thats a useful get you home fix if the heater matrix ever leaks. However as Tony says, why not fit a simple stop valve? Try Car Builder Solutions as a first port of call. Peter.
