  • Overheating

    Hi Guys

    Any help please.

I've built a YKC Roadster using a factory reconditioned two litre Pinto.

After running the engine for approximately 10 minutes the temperature swings to 100C and the electric fan cuts in, running constantly. Both heater hose, top hose and the radiator top gets very hot. The bottom of the radiator and the bottom hose remains very cold.

Thanks for any help - Joe Ryan

    Re: Overheating

    Hi Joe,
it sounds to me like the water is not circulating, you may wont to look at the water pump, I have known the impeller to corrode and break up, you cant tell until you take it off the engine and have a look. This is assuming the radiator is clear and the thermostat is opening witch it sounds as if it is.
Hope this is of some help.
    Terry

        On a lighter note
If the car is stationary there is no real air circulation in the cramped engine bay so overhaeting is more likely.
I have seen pumps on older cars where the vanes have corroded so far as to become detached or non existant.
Has the car got louvred side panels they help with air circulation?
