  • Fuel supply

I would be interested to know what other Sportster builders have done/are doing about the fuel supply. When I picked my kit up from Marlin a few months ago they advised me that I needed
    1. A low pressure pump mounted near the fuel tank feeding:
    2. A swirl pot mounted in the engine compartment feeding a
    3. High pressure pump feeding the engine
This seems a bit OTT to me - what have other people done?

Yes Marlin supplied a swirl pot, and I have piped up the system as you described, have yet to fuel it up as haveing problems with the electrics, Marlin stated that their oringinal tank design leaked and also suffered fuel presure loss during corning with low fuel levels.

      Hi John
Thanks for th reply. Any chance you could make me a drawing of what is connected to what? I understand that the swirlpot has 4 connections on it. If you have the technology please email it to martincla(at)tiscali.co.uk

      Thanks

I'm still trying to figure out what all the parts still attached to my donor engine are! I have 2 cylinders attached to the "fuel system" on the engine - one is probably a filter, so whats the other? TIS and Haynes manuals so far not much help. If anyones got labelled photos of the passenger side of their E36 engine (325 preferable) then I'd be grateful...

If the outlet pipe from the plastic container goes to the inlet manifold, it?s a carbon filter, the fuel tank on the BM vents through to the inlet manifold to comply with emissions regs.

There is a source of information on bits that can be removed in one of the projects listed on http://www.racepad.com/ this may be of interest.

                Hi all,

I'm gona use the setup with a swirlpot. A friend with a Dax-rush can only go 1 fast spinning round at a roundabout (is that the correct word) because at low fuellevels he gets no more fuel on his pump (gives also much noise!).
While I have the big 12 gallon tank which is flat at the bottom and like to drive the tank almost empty, it's really necessary. I don't believe to much in the baffles. I don't have all the parts now, but my problem is that the donorengine (ford scorpio cosworth from 1991) has an in-tank-pump. My problem now is that my engine needs a high-pressure fuelpump with 200 ltr/hr. And that brings me to an expensive line-up with Dash6 connections.
So yes, you need the double setup to 'feed' the engine correct. Unfortunately it can be expensive. But if you want to go on tracks you need to have it.
The swirlpot has 4 connections. 1 from tank to pot and 1 return line, also 1 from pot to engine and 1 back. The lower is the one to your engine because below there will always need to be fuel ! as easy as that.
For correct fuelpump spec, my ford dealer couldn't help at all, so I got my info from tuningspecialist. They really strip the engine an then start (better) new.
                Hope this helps you all.
