    Hi does anyone know the correct length of a propshaft to fit a type 9 box and cortina axle. upgrading a friends Berlinetta from 4 speed to 5 speed at the weekend and wanted to manufacture one before then.

    Hi Lee,
    I changed from a four speed to a type 9 last year. My 4 speed was the "Rocket" box fitted to the Cortina 2 litre cars. I also have the heavy dute "Atlas" axle fitted to the 2 litre Cortinas. I found that I had to change the gearbox mounting holes in the outriggers more to the rear. You may also need to shorten the outriggers by an inch or so; it depends on when the Berli kit was made. With all the above in mind, I did not need to change my propshaft at all. Everything fitted well. The speedo cable was long enough to fit although it was fiddly to fit as the gear in the type 9 is further back. The Reversing light switch changes sides too - not a problem but you may need to reposition or lengthen the cables to this.

    It was a mod certainly worth carrying out. The cruise is so effortless now.
