  • Painting a berli

I\'ve been doing some work on the interior of the car but before I re-fit it out completely I want to get the car resprayed.

I don\'t have the time or facilities to do this myself and from what I\'ve read on the forum most people seem to get this done professionally. I\'ve read a few posts where people have said they \"sent all the panels off to be painted\". Does this include the one sealed to the windscreen? Also what do people do about the \"sills\", from what I can tell they it\'s not possible to separate these from the car :-), which is a pity because I\'d quite like to be able to continue with the interior.

I\'d be interested to hear if anyone has any recommendations regarding either the colour scheme or any paintshops in the Northamptonshire area...

    Current picture attached (hopefully)
    .

                Is Daventry close enough?
Simon Gregory had his Cabrio sprayed at Normandale in Daventry. They made a fabulous job (Simons car was voted best in show last year - so it was a universally shared view of the paint quality)- appears on the MOC calendar - May.
I believe their going rate there is £1500 + VAT and they will do all the preparation.
Normandale are a paint shop only and specialise in working with several of the F1 teams so mixed panel colurs is not a problem. The manager there seems to really know his trade and appears to be very down to earth, and straight/honest.
have a look on their website.
                Mike

                    Re: Painting a berli

Has anyone got any similar recommendations for the Essex area? It seems lots of the paint on my Berli is seeking a divorce from the fibreglass after being firm friends for only a couple of years!

                      Re: Painting a berli

I've had a quote for £800-£900 by a chap near Mansfield- the variation in price is basically in case it takes him ages to undo all the panels because of rust etc. I was quite pleased by that; my Grandad's been using him for years on the Morris Minors that he still rebuilds, so I think he knows what he's doing.

                        Hi Lee
I also am hoping to get my Berli resprayed shortly and was wondering the same thing about the panels which cannot be easily removed from the car & also whether it is possible to send off the panels separately to get sprayed. I had visions of me taking off the panels individually outside the resprayers. Mind if I give you a buzz too - it would be very helpful
                        Cheers!

                            Hi Gary,
Not knowing what Lee has advised I can just mention a couple of tips after having had 3 Berlinettas sprayed. The first is take out the windscreen with frame. Some of the early Berlinettas were delivered with windscreens of tempered glas instead of laminated. If you've got one of those it is well worth making the change now at the painting stage - the tempered winscreen shatters if you get a stone chip and that can be fatal. I have never removed the rear body from the chassis. The rolling chassis with sills and rear body get painted at the same time. I'll send a couple of pictures to your email address.
