  • Marina / Ital Rear Hub: Key and Oilseal

When changing rear halfshaft bearings and oil seals on a Marina or Ital rear axle you may have noticed that the hub/halfshafts come with two different keyway sizes with two different outer oil seals . It is only recently it has been confirmed that the change point matched a change in hub design when both the keyway and outer oil seal was made larger.

It has become clear that the changeover for the Marina from a 3/16" keyway was in 1978, and that from that date all Marina and later Itals had 1/4" keyways. There is no change on the inner oil seal, bearing or gasket.

    Morris Marina 1971-1978: 1.3, 1.8 (non commercial)
Rear Hub Kit Quinton Hazell Part Number QWB133C
Rear Hub Outer oil seal (small): GHS111

    Morris Marina 1978-80: 1.3, 1.8 & Ital 1980-84:1.3, 1.7, 2.0 (non commercial)
Rear Hub Kit Quinton Hazell Part Number QWB440
Rear Hub Outer oil seal (large): GHS 184

This change also applies to Triumph Dolomite (not Sprint), that use the same axle internals, but at this stage, the change dates are unclear.

I have updated my magnum opus document to include this data.
