  • light bar effect for Romero

NOt liking the standard Romero cross-eyed look where the lights are bolted directly to the front wings (see pictures in the Romero gallery here) I wanted to see if making a couple of short stubby lightbars (Like on Terry's cabrio) would work...well here's my attempt. It still needs tightening up and fine tuning but its gettingt here.
Just bumpers and a windscreen next.
Note the natty little indicators that will mirror the shape of the grille.

I think you need to check the IVA manual for angle of vision for indicators(table 1) I dont think that position will be accepted.

My last MoT bloke was sucking his teeth because I had forgotten to replace the headlamp ring retaing screw! I notice that you have not fitted yours yet. I asked him to remove the loose and dangerous headlamp ring which is very tight and snaps into position. He couldn't remove it so he "let it pass for now"! I still havn't bothered fitting the ecrew as the rin is very very tight on it's lugs!

Having had super Oscar lights on the front of a Escort rally car I would be concerned about the lights wobbling without adequate bracing. The load appiled to the mounting points will have a considerable twisting torque....

Sorry if it seems a bit negative

hmmm I thought that too at first Chris, but the standard way is to simply drill a hole through the wing and bolt 'em to it. Just having trial fitted these like this they actually feel much more solid as the centre of mass is acting vertically through the fastening. The fastening is actually about 2" max from the wing and the triangular plate should spread the load. It will be interesting to see what happens. Terry's cabrio has a similar arrangement (which inspired me). And dont worry about being negative - if it stops me making a mistake then its worth saying

And yes, the screw is not in (yet_ in fact he light unit is just propped in to see what it loks like

Re: light bar effect for Romero

Hi Cameron, why not extend the mounting bar and fit a triangular fixing plate then bolt thro the rad cowling. That would provide enough support for the headlamps and give more options for the flasher position. Also , why not fit chrome or stainless lamp bodies as they are much lighter and in my opinion look better as well. Cheers chris

I agree with Chris extending it through the radiator cowl would look good and give good support
