  • Gearbox change

    Hiya

I am just in the throws of changing the Gearbox on my 1.3 A Series engines MK2 Roadster.

I have the Marina Manual handy but any tips would be useful.

What about the clutch will that be ok to leave in situ whilst doing this?

The Clutch was changed before the original gearbox was put in and has done only a few miles.

The only bit I am really worried about is bending the First Motion Shaft.

Note: I will be removing this from underneath the car so wont be taking the engine out.

The clutch should be fine, the first motion shaft is pretty robust, unless you really abuse it the shaft should take no harm.

Don't forget to disconnect the speedo cable!

On re-assembly engage top gear and 'feel' the splines engagement by turning the output flange while pushing the box towards the engine. A very light smear of 'Copper Ease' on the splines can help.
