  • Fiberglass moulds for MKII body parts?

    1. Does anyone know where/who has the moulds for the bodywork for the MKII Roadster are? Looked up YKC (last makers of the Roadster), but they closed down in 2005 according to company house.

    2. Has anyone had to get replacements or make them from scratch - looking for left and right front suspension covers for Marina based Roadster MKII

    Thanks,

    avid - Milton Keynes

Would be interesting if there was a list of anyone who makes replacement panels - just a thought !!!!!!

Re: Fiberglass moulds for MKII body parts?

It is really frustrating, but no one makes true Marlin Roadster panels. The guy who bought the YKC (and Berlinetta?) rights does nothing with them, except, inhibiting a progressively minded club memebr from offering a replica service.

There are members who have bought un-started kits to keep a supply of spares. I know the committee has discussed this, and concluded there are plenty of spares within the club membership for this not to be an issue.

Have you posted a Wanted ad?

      Mike

Only the Marina based car had them so they will be the correct parts. (Unless someone now tells me otherwise:-)

Re: Fiberglass moulds for MKII body parts?

The original moulds are probably held by Milan of Aquila although the cars he bought were largely the SVA compliant Romero/ Julietta ones. He has told me that he would happily start remaking stuff if there was a demand for it but I dont think we would be able to create as much demand as he would need/ want for tooling up again. There is another guy, Steve H, who is a member on here who was part of YKC and Im sure that if he sees this thread he will let us know what and where things are.
The reality though is that all panels are available out there somewhere and its just a matter of finding them - or borrowing a good one to make a copy - which is the easiest way.
This is an area the committee discuss regularly and as Mike said it is thought that there are enough bits coming onto the market and enough in peoples garages, without us having to begin collecting body panels just yet. I'm sure the day will come but until then the best solution is to keep posting on here because someone will know someone who has what you want.
