  • Front aluminium side panels

    All

I have just been fitting the side panels to my Roadster.

They went on fine but there is a gap between the rear and the chassis.

What did you guys do to seal it?

    Regards

    Adrian

Silicone sealant, Put a bead down around the chassis and then bolt the panel on top of it so that it makes a seal.

Perhaps flexible beading like you put between wings and body, easy to spray and readily available

I recall using good quality outdoor sealant for that from the inside and a thumb on the outside to make it look clean

Thanks for the suggestions, I just wanted to make sure before going for the sealant.

If you are worried about future access etc with sealant, put a smear of grease on the inside of the panel, then assemble as normal, the silicone will seal but not stick, use the method on my r/c yachts to seal deck hatches but maintain easy access to the batteries, servos etc inside the hulls!

I was expecting a return on the back edge of the bonnet side but it doesn't appear to have one..?
I have a return along the top half of the bonnet side and a flange on the lower part of the chassis A post (mid 80's kit).
Originally I used some of this as it is easy to form, easy to disassemble and very effective.

^ that's like double glazing/velux window seal, try your local glazing company, its available in different sizes and should be ideal!! just like the old black bostik of years ago1

Does it stop the rain getting in?

                        LOL

Seems a little less messy than sealant, I may go for it.

Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Glazing seal, different thickness and widths, easy to trim with a Stanley type blade and cleans up with turps, renovated 4 x velux here a la frog and used the stuff to reseat etc worked well!!

Used to be a sealant called "Dum-Dum". Best equivalent I found is from Frost:
