I don't want to take a guess and find that it fouls the engine mount or footwell so i thought i'd dip a toe into our vast pool of knowledge.

      Ja

      hi,
I have a secondhand 4 2 1 manifold that has been modified into almost 4 into 1 with a 2 inch 90 degrees bend to go under the car,it starts life as a common pinto 4 2 1 design.off what car i don't know, but clears everything, will try and find a photo for you. i bought this off ebay after finding nothing fits without stupid amounts of work

That's quite a neat installation Burgoyne 69. thanks for the photos. I will keep trawling the net. The whole exhaust will be coming off soon in an attempt to reduce the resonance and have a freer flowing system. The resonance i hope will be cured by having a second box before the main silencer (probably a cherry bomb or something of that ilk). I will get a main exhaust silencer that splits the flow from a single pipe into two then exiting at the rear as it is now. Having two outlets should slow the gas charge down and as this will be a straight through system i expect this will help keep the volume down oh and i like the look of two pipes as well of course.

My experience of the three pintos I have owned is that there is generally a resonance between 1800 and 2000 rpm. I have not been able to totally eliminate this.

My system has a ear drumming resonance at 2750 rpm + or - a few hundred RPM about 60 -70 mph for my gearing. I seem to remember picking up information when i was training as a mechanic many many years ago now that having a resonator box before the main silencer would disrupt the sonics of the exhaust. I think maybe that anything else maybe coming through the engine or gearbox mounts. The box thats on the car is a single s/s box, long with an oval cross section. Prime candidate for some drumming especially if the packing has been blown out. I ran a Buell motorcycle for a good few months with absolutely no packing left in it. Surprised how fast a silencer can evacuate the fibre glass wadding once it becomes loose.
