  • Alternater belt

Hi evereyone, just bought a lwb roadster with 1.8 marina engine. Please can anyone advise me what size/spec is the alternater belt. Is this a part I can get from halfords or is it now a specialised item.
    Thanks for listening

Perhaps not Halfords (they don't list the Marina anymore), but certainly any decent motor should be able to get you one given the year of your donor.

If you look at the old belt it will have a number on it this is the lenghth of the belt in mm. Halfords are not clever enought to use this information but most good motor factors still stock by length. The belt length may not be the same as the on the donor as there is less room under the bonnet and the alternator is usually rotated on its mounting shortening the belt a bit. Having said that when I bought a belt to match the old one I couln't get the bugger on. Have fun.

I have also just bought a fan belt for a 1800B series with an alternator. I am sure the make was Gate. part no GAT 6212MC it was 900mm long and fitted fine.

Halford HB900a seems to work for mine. I did have longer one I think 920 (both are listed for MGB) but this made the fan blades behind the alternator pulley get a bit friendly with the UJ in the steering column. It took a little while to work out why I got such a dreadful noise on left hand corners.

Thanks again guys.I took Dons excellent advice and checked what the size/code is on the existing belt which is 6216ESC,so this give me flying start. I am touched by Ryans kind offer to crawl under his car on my behalf, Thanks Dude but not necessary. Also, Tony, I have an electric fan so not sure if this is a mod.

                  Hi Derek,
I have an electric fan also so I think that the Halfords belt should work fine for you if you can't get the other.
