Re: Steering rack LH tie-rod bearing MOT fail

Has anyone tried outside the box so to speak? www.somerfordmini.co.uk do as the name suggests mini (real) spares and have a rack bush for £3.00 something just a thought in case someone might like to phone them up and ask about measurements and such, most BMC models did a lot of out of the same bin parts so who knows.
How about eEuroparts Saab steering rack repair kit (not to be confused with europarts) , I know its Sunday and you may have to take the approach that not everything in life is a straight fit on to your Marlin, sometimes you have to be willing to compromise.
I'm not being rude just trying to help you see a different way to think about things.

http://www.cjw-consulting.co.uk/stee...ering_rack.htm may help Sidon with his decision.

Spent a few moments looking at alternatives,
igus® manufacture energy chains®, flexible chainflex® cables and harnessed readychain systems, polymer bearings including bushings, rod ends, linear bearings, linear actuators and linear slides

Leading manufacturer of polyurethane elastomers for components, sheets, strips and polyurethane roller coverings. Providing high quality parts.

    Feel free to investigate.

Well someone has to keep on trying, incidentally I have a mk1 escort rack forward of the uprights on mine and my own design and made wishbone suspension, the present predicament is intrigue only.

I was only pointing out to Sidon where to look if he was going to attempt the repair himself, I was fully aware who CJW was.

It will be by email only , because if someone posts pictures on my behalf it is being seen as a non member receiving benefits from the club.
I think that is the top and tail of it, Andyf send me your email and I will do my best to accommodate you.
It has a wider track of about 120mm, Cortina uprights and discs, Capri laser 2.8ltr lsd rear axle, type 9 5speed box, Vauxhall concentric clutch release bearing, Sierra EFi 2.0ltr engine, 2013 Morgan 3 wheeler exhaust pipes 4 into 2, Plus 8 ally 3 core radiator, wire wheels and hub adapters, Morgan factory built leather interior, leather dashboard, Mitsubishi modified bonnet scoop, Land Rover adjustable steering column which is collapsible, with LR switches, Morgan Aero 8 brake master cylinder and servo, aluminium fuel tank with Ford Puma in tank pump, air filter under the dashboard, and two little cast aluminium Lambretta brake air scoops, plus lots of other bits. Very interesting - what have you done with the wings to cover the additional track width?

.......and why haven't you joined the club? - the cost is buttons!

                  Hi Mike,
The wings were cut and I made up long strips of fibreglass to increase the width.
As Groucho Marks said who wants to belong to a club that would have me as a member. Membership is a moot point, I have been asked by Paul/milliemartin to do the honourable thing and not use the clubs facilities, and as all non members are to be removed from the club in the future I think my time has come to a close on here and so you may have the honour of my last post (distant sound of bugler playing).

                    HI all

I was doing a bit of digging around on Saturday and found a company that can supply NEW, not NOS, original bushes.

Please note you would have to reuse the grub screw.

If an individual were to purchase one it would cost £10+60p postage.

If we were to put an order in for 10 or more then the cost would come down to £8+postage.

They can refurbished your old rack for £75.

The link below is for their website :

As I am not a member of the marina club, could I ask if you could pass this onto them?

                        Many thanks.

This is all really good information that we all hope will benefit other owners as our cars age. I need to get my rack off asap to ascertain whether it is Mk1 or Mk2 and whether there are any other issues with it before I decide which way to go. Sadly, I have too much on at the moment, so it will be a couple of weeks before I can tackle the job. I will feedback with photos etc though. Thanks all.

I will not be contacting Chris Weedon on your behalf.
Use Google or even this forum and you can do that yourself. You don't have to be a member of a club to do that.

Strangely enough I am currently not a member either!
