Re: Marina Compatible Front Discs and Diff.

No real problem with my diff except it is still sitting on my floor. Progress on the kit is slow and requires a lot of recovering lost parts, and freeing rusted ones. I'll check "Marina Superflex" but the MGB parts are dirt cheap. May want to do the entire suspension with a hard synthetic bushing material when I get around to it

be for the 10 cwt van as my rear brakes are 1 1/2 inch wide drums and shoes as opposed to the 2 inch wide 10cwt van which also has thicker wheel studs, I think 7/16 UNF.

No not really you could use the guts of a Herald/Vitesse diff but they have a fixed housing and drive shafts the Dolomite and TR7 would work OK

Many thanks Ben and Steve for the excellent information. The jungle of Leyland parts is thicker than I had imagined ! Overall it looks as if a 4 speed TR7 is my likeliest source as I doubt there are many Dolomite bits out there still.

Appears the MGB has a 1.5in spring and the Marina is 2 inches so different plates.

Yes that's correct but could be overcome, the main problem is the shorter track of the MGB axle. I had thought that might be overcome with spacers but the brake back plates foul the springs.

Your next possibility is a TR7 axle but the track is wider by I think 3 inches and you would have to weld Marina style spring mounts to the casing.

I don't know if Triumph Dolomites were ever imported to Canada but would be suitable but these are the only axles with the same PCD as your original axle.

The next best thing would be the European small Fords Escorts, Capri's Cortinas which use the same shackle and spacer block arrangement as the Marina.

Something I've thought of but not explored are the smaller Japanese 4X4s which must be all over the place. Might be worth visiting a scrapyard with a tape measure.

How about these for direct replacement Marina discs?

It would be useful to know if anyone has tried the EBC vented discs ?

Brake Disc (MARINA / MINOR) Each Modifications @ ESM Morris Minors carry huge stocks of new spares as well as a large number of those difficult to find secondhand parts for Morris Minors. Products available for immediate dispatch.

The Minor one’s will only fit a Minor that has been converted to Marina hubs and brakes, so they should fit a Marina OK, but why bother when Marina specific discs are still available.

Vented disks are too thick to fit the Marina Type 14 calipers. It is possible to fit Princess calipers with a widening kit, but they are getting very rare and expensive as they have be bought up mostly by Ford enthusiasts that also use Type 14 calipers.
The route I took with Clio Vented disks is probably the cheapest and easiest conversion unless someone wants to do more research work. Have a look at the link in the second post in this thread.

So the basic answer to your questions are 1. probably yes, but why? and 2. yes but you need to change the calipers the mounts and modify the disks, then make sure it all fits inside your wheels?

                        Hi Steve
Because the standard Marina Discs are listed on ebay at almost double the price of those I have provided a link for .

                        https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MORRIS-MA...MAAOSwfXJavKVh

Do you know anywhere that can supply for less than the link I provided in my previous post please, mine are ok at the moment but for reference to other Roadster owners?

When replacing brake/steering/suspension components it is always best to change both sides at the same time, so check that what you are buying, as some list just for one side.
Equally if you change the discs, you should ideally replace the brake pads, shims and fixings. Some suppliers supply disc and pads as a kit, though rarely the shims and fixings.
Never on eBay trust the photographs, often a supplier uses a generic picture, not the picture of the real part, which is why you might have thought Marinas and Itals use vented disks.
eBay parts are transient by nature, always better to go back to an original supplier whose link is more likely to be resilient for several years.
The moral of the story is to check and double check.
