t bares a strong resemblance to the later Marlin Triumph base Roadsters but when it is alongside one the differences in shape becomes apparent.
The car has a 2 litre straight 6 engine plus a 4 speed overdrive gearbox. The whole engine and transmission is offset 4 inches towards the nearside. This means that the driver’s side is of reasonable width, however the passenger side is quite narrow. The car was built without a roof or soft-top and has been outside for most of its life. This does not seem to have caused any corrosion and nearly all of the body/chassis belongs to the original special.
All the suspension and running gear has been overhauled. A new Triumph loom has been modified to fit and the only change from the way it was built was the inclusion of a small alternator. The room of the nearside was narrow and the loom had fitting for an alternator. The shock absorbers were changed for adjustable seat type so that the ride height could be easily altered. A screwed spacer was fitted to the standard steering-rack, this replaced the welded arm on the original rack. The handbrake was revised and hopefully will work for the MOT test
A large number of ‘gutter’ bolts were removed and replaced with socket or countersunk stainless steel set screws and aluminum ‘rivnuts’. The wooden floor panels were replaced with aluminum new inner front wings were made as the original pair had corroded around the 2 wings supports. Leather seat cushions replaced the cloth ones and a wood rim steering wheel replaced the existing one. Although a detachable hub is fitted at the moment
The car comes complete with a trailer. It is of unique steel plate design using 2 indespension units and mini 10 inch wheels.
Acquired in 2009 as the 4th owners (after Paul M) and subjected to a rebuild
All Suspension removed and overhauled with new bearings and bushes.
All tyres removed from wheels and wheels cleaned and painted, prior to 2 tyre being re-fitted and 2 new tyres to replace the cracked originals.
Prop--shaft and drive-shafts rebuilt with new bearings, also new offside bearing and oil seal.
New Adjustable seat shock absorbers fitted front and rear.
The front brakes had discs and callipers and the rear had shoes.
New seals for Brake Master Cylinder and all brake pipes renewed
Hand-brake rebuilt with small modifications and pull off springs fitted
A new steering rack together with new extension piece for near-side allowing standard components to be used. New track-rod ends were also fitted.
Carburettors sent to have new throttle spindles and bushes fitted. All new jets and gaskets fitted.
Electric fuel pump moved to engine compartment alongside fuel filter.
Fuel feed pipes renewed in copper pipe
All ply floors replaced with Aluminium plus new boot floor.
278 cross-head gutter bolts drilled out and replaced with m6 ‘Riv-nuts’ and stainless steel cap screws.
Both inner wings made to replace corroded versions. Now m5 countersunk riv-nutted to wings.
Seat cushions made from Leather and panels recovered in red vinyl.
New tonneau cover fitted on new studs
Passenger seat rebuilt with new base incorporating locking compartment.
Fibre Glass Body panels filled and primered plus new lower rear boot sides made.
New Aluminium panels etch primered and the undercoated.
Chassis rust proofed and painted Black
Heaters feed pipes remade and fitted together with new brackets attached to the radiator.
New wiring loom fitted together with various switches and new small 45 amp Alternator.
New number plates and stainless steel backing with new number plate rear light.
Rubber mats cut to fit floors and panels made for foot-well sides.
Spare Wheel holder smoothed outside and sprayed red whilst inside was coated with Black underseal type coating. This was also applied to the inside of the front wings to prevent stone strikes creating stars on the top painted layer
