  • Sierra steering column problems

Discussed this by PM with another member, who suggested I post the info to be more generally available. Where the column passes through the floor, Mr Ford placed a rather tacky (sorry Henry) plastic bush thing which tends to wear and spring out of the floor causing the steering column to have a dangerous amount of sideways movement and the car to fail its MOT. I found this little modification on eBay to sort mine out (hopefully) permanently. Its marketed on eBay by Anembo Engineering, listed as a "Ford Escort Sierra Cosworth Steering Column Bearing Conversion", eBay item number 122326061308. In fairness, this company are not the only people offering one of these, but it looked the neatest and best made of the ones I saw.

I used a similar bearing for my Berlinetta, bought from Ebay. It's a major improvement on the standard Ford set up.

I did the same on a Romero - bearing bought from Bearing Boys, a pressed steel flanged bearing, worked out at about a tenner iirc
