  • Roadster dashboard

Before starting on some wiring I was just thinking about the dash.
My current one is aluminium and has cut outs around the steering wheel.

I have since purchased an original plastic steering column cowl and fitted.

The car had these electronic smiths clocks installed but not wired up and sure they will need additional wiring and then calibrating.

Thinking of making a wooden dash (marine ply with veneer) but not sure whether to use these Smiths clocks or go for the original clocks.

Anyway, this is not really a question but request for others ideas with photos to help give me some inspiration.

    Cheers, Martin.

Thanks Adrian, thinking that is the way to go with original clocks. I have the 1275 A series, did they do the cluster with the rev counter for the A series? I remember my brother and sister in law having a 1275 Marina each and can’t remember if they had the rev counter. I was in the ford escort club at that time.
      Cheers, Martin.

think the rev counter was only fitted in the 1.8tc marina

I think you are right Tony, I got mine off eBay, they work fine.

Mine is also the 1275A Series with a Metro manifold and 1 3/4" SU Carb, again goes well.

Also got some chrome bezels off eBay to, just to smarten up the clocks.

          Regards

              Re: Roadster dashboard

That sounds promising. I take it the rev counter wires in with the coil and distributor.
I have the original manifold for exhaust and carb and the exhaust is the 3 into 2.

That looks like the same mod as mine, hif 6 if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry didn't answer your question, yes for wiring the rev counter.

According to David Vizard you can use either.

Thanks Adrian. Got to overhaul the wiring loom as well, something I have not really been looking forward to.
                        Cheers,

Martin, there are many dashboard pics in their own gallery on this site, you may get some ideas from them ?

Thanks DC, my main concern is which clocks to use so I can plan a layout for them with switches. At the moment I have a selection of different switches and different types of warning light, a bit of a Heinz 57, I think I have decided on the clocks to source and I like the traditional rocker switches and warning lights. Done my CAD template (cardboard aided design) for the dash so will look out for some clocks and switches.

I did mine in the spring this year, the worst part was probably the rewiring of the loom; I think I had to 14" to some 30+ wires! Heat shrink tubing is a wonderful invention!
