    Re: Roadster Hybrid

The petrol tank will be from a Ford Escort Mk2 estate or van so beware that the car will probably run out
of fuel when the gauge says about a quarter of a tank. Unless someone has tweaked the sender.

Not sure what the switch on the right would be but if your going for a full rewire I would also have a rethink
with the dashboard at the same time. Would pay to get a Haynes manual for the Vitesse/GT6

The gearshift will be standard H same as the Herald reverse is press-down and left then forward, somewhere there would be a simple switch for the overdrive.
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

      Re: Roadster Hybrid

      Cheers Ben ,

Yes to dash layout, it’s awful ! I’m surprised the tank is from an escort. On the wiring front Ill go down the road of making a loom or try find a generic kit with modern fuse board etc. Will dig through Gallery for nice dash layout. Main objective is to get things running as is and give a light test run before stripping everything apart. I learned this the hard way over the years, haste makes waste.

      All the best, T

        Re: Roadster Hybrid

        Hi Trevor,
I am also on wiring and undecided to whether use and adapt the original loom, figure out and create my own loom with only wires that are used or buy a generic loom. Be interested which you decide to do.
A question about the roll over bar, could you upload a picture of how it is mounted please as that is another mod I am considering.
The fuel tank is from a mk2 escort van or estate, quite rare now and worth a bit for a decent one.
        Cheers, Martin.

            Re: Roadster Hybrid

            Hello All,

Will post pic of stainless roll bar. I think it was meant to be part of a boot/tyre rack and some of its missing. I have a hood but no frame for it so not quite sure how well placed it is as yet. It’s not strong enough for a roll bar IMO. I did see a trial car with one fitted further back of box steel. Wiring, well I have more home work to do per link from DC ?????? Oh the Irish Plate I found in that very spot. My have been the donor Vitesse.

            Thanks, T

Just a thought Trevor, the electrickery mentioned is Marina, and you have a Vitesse donor ? Are you using Marina or Triumph wiring ?

I'll have a look at my records for the Herald based car I rebuilt to see if I did the same thing, it may be better for you ?

Edit : Sorry, no, nothing found. Guess I must have just used the Haynes/Triumph manuals and hooked up the wires that way

Side shot of how part of rack is mounted. Welding not great and would not rely on it as a roll bar .

                    Re: Roadster Hybrid

I recently visited someone that is keen on trialing and got a couple of pics to give me an idea for a roll bar but the same welding not great.
Just need to find someone that can bend the tubing so I can tack in place then take to a professional welder.

                      Re: Roadster Hybrid

try tube bender on ebay just put roll cage into ebay search they will bend cds tubing to your diagram for very reasonable price. I used then for the main hoops for rally cars they were always very professional.

                        Re: Roadster Hybrid

Thanks for that, think I have found them, £14.95 per bend and just over £50 for the 50mm tubing, sounds reasonable as I would only need 2 bends
